Guadalajara vs. Toluca

Today after going to do an interview in the Mission district today I had lunch at a Mexican restaurant on 18th/Mission. I almost didn’t go in, because I saw it was so crowded, but then I realized that everyone was watching a Mexican soccer match on TV and thought that it would be interesting to watch with them. I sat down and observed. It was Guadalajara vs. Toluca (I looked it up, it was a semifinal match — Toluca won 1-0) and just about everyone was a Guadalajara fan. I ordered all in Spanish (I hardly speak any, but can order food) and just hung out. Even though I didn’t really fit in, it was neat to observe for a little while. I caught the last 20 minutes or so of the first half. Good chorizo burrito, too.

Rachel and I hit up Shiok! tonight, a fun Singaporean place in Menlo Park. The waiter admitted that the laksa that they serve was the weakest that they could make it — and he preferred it hotter. I’ll go for that next time.

I’ve been reading Underground , a book that Rich gave to me for graduation. It’s about the 1995 attack on the Tokyo subway — and I’ve been reading exclusively on the BART, when I have a total of 50 minutes uninterrupted to read while I commute. It’s somewhat freaky, but it’s a good book.
