It’s a crisp, fall day and you’re strolling down the sidewalk, enjoying the fresh air and the turning leaves, when — squip — you realize you’ve just stepped on a big wad of freshly discarded chewing gum.
Bummer. But at least you didn’t brush your knee against a gumwad stuck to the underside of a café table.
Those unpleasantly sticky experiences may soon be a thing of the past, if a new British startup has its way. Roger Pettman, CEO of Revolymer, says that his company has invented the world’s first non-stick chewing gum. Clean Gum, as its known, was unveiled last week at the BA Festival of Science in York, and will probably be launched next year in Britain before going worldwide.
“Gum will always be a litter,” Pettman said. “All we can do is stop the environmental aspects of it.”
