What I’m Reading
Canoe.ca New Pornographers battle Internet leaks on their own terms July 30 2007 “Personally, I don’t have a huge problem with leaks, I’m of the belief that if people get your record for free but they come to your show and buy a T-shirt or whatever, well, it’s the same difference. You’re not really losing much money. It’s better than them not taking the record for free and not coming to your show,” [New Pornographers singer/guitarist/songwriter Carl] Newman says during…

Ticket Giveaway: The Fray, July 25 (Bend, Oregon)
So I’m not really sure how many readers I have in Oregon, nor within driving distance of Bend, but here goes: I was contacted recently by a promoter for The Fray, who is giving away two tickets to readers of this blog for the band’s July 25 (6:30 pm) show at the Les Schwab Theater in Bend, courtesy of NoWhat.com. Chapitre 7
I just found out that MC Solaar’s seventh album will be coming out next month. Appropriately, as has been the case for the last few albums with their numerological titles, it’ll be called “Chapitre 7.” It’s been four years since the last one — I can’t wait. Pretty much all that’s known about the first single is that it’s called: “Da Vinci Claude,” after the “Da Vinci Code” and Solaar’s real name, Claude M’Barali.

“All Over You Like Egg In a Bowl of Bibimbap!”
Oh man — what could be better than Stephen Colbert singing a mock Korean pop song (Ã la Rain)? Exactly. [via Metropolitician]

Epicte
My longtime friend Nick Freilich, aka Epicte, has just come out with his first full-length electronica CD. At $10, (shipping including), it’s a bargain. I’ve just ordered mine — and so you should too. You may recall that one of the tracks, “Celtic Glass Glitch,” I remixed with Dan Skeels’ auctioneering talents last year.

Democracy in Dakar: Wade re-elected
So Senegal just had its presidential elections this past Sunday, and the results are in today: Abdoulaye Wade has been re-elected. Ethan has a great roundup via Global Voices about what various Senegalese bloggers are saying about things. Not sure who’s who or what’s what? You’re in luck, because Ethan’s also found this fantastic three-part video series: Democracy in Dakar Project 2007.

Josh Quittner, the editor-in-chief at Business 2.0 magazine (where I was an intern a mere three years ago), wants to be the next dean at the North Gate Graduate School of Journalism? Also, why didn’t anyone tell me that Ted Leo & the Pharmacists are playing a $15 show at Stanford this Sunday night? I’m so there, dude.
