Ghostride the Volvo
In the tradition of the Internet mash-up, it’s only fitting that in response to the A’s departure to Fremont, two kids mixed two great Oakland traditions: ghost ridin’ the whip, and the A’s.

Trader Joe’s is coming to Oakland!
Its new location in Oakland was just confirmed today! It’ll open in Spring 2007! That means this new one will be about 0.2 miles closer to my Rockridge house than the one in Emeryville. Huzzah!

Dave Cuomo plays two nights in the Bay Area!
When I lived in New York, I was invited to get cheap drinks and attend some great live music once a week at The Underground Lounge by my good buddy and Columbia cohort Jennifer Weiss. She had a regular gig rockin’ the back room on piano and killer vocals. Jen and I also shared a radio class together at Columbia, and after having been exposed to various musical performances at the Underground, and in dire need of a subject for…

It’s officially autumn now
I just made my first fire in my fireplace of late 2006. I’ve been wearing more and more long sleeve t-shirts as of late (still with the sandals, though), have been throwing more blankets on my bed at night, have worn my beanie a few times during the day. It’s down to the 50s in Oakland these days — although my weather forecast predicts a mid-70s day later this week. Still, it’s that time of year when life just feels…

LET’S GO, OAKLAND!
Best part of the game: within two minutes of the final out, the folks in the right field bleachers (where my brother and I were sitting) started chanting: Yankees suck! Yankees suck! I can’t wait for the ALCS.

Oakland Taco Trucks
Xeni at Boing Boing brightened my day with a link to TacoTrucks.net a site devoted to Oakland taco trucks, one of my favorite places to get a cheap and amazingly delicious meal. I’ve known about Burritoeater.com and Burritophile.com, which are dissapointing because the former is exclusively focused on San Francisco, and the latter’s reviews are too spotty. I was just at El Ojo de Agua #3 (pictured above) last night, and seriously, I don’t think you can get a better…

Let’s Go, Oakland!
I’m going to the playoffs! The last (and only time) I went to a playoff game was in fall 2003 with my buddy Garett Ng. Today, the 2006 American League Division Series tickets just went on sale, and I snagged a pair of bleachers tickets for Game 1 or 3, and Game 5. Huzzah!

Cyrus on NPR tomorrow!
So tomorrow I’ll be covering the Apple Special Event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in downtown San Francisco — but this time for N P FREAKIN R ! That’s right, thanks to my radio instructor Rick Karr from Columbia, I got a call from National Public Radio to cover the event in the absence of Laura Sydell. Fortunately on Thursday I bought myself a new Marantz PMD660 from Leo’s Audio here in Oakland, so I have my…

One Day Tour of San Francisco
A New York friend is coming to San Francisco for a weekend to attend a wedding. She’s staying in Union Square and only has one full day to tour the city on her own, and this is what I recommended: 1) Get up whenever, stroll around Union Square/Market St. 2) Optionally check out Yerba Buena Gardens and the Museum of Modern Art, or the California Historical Society Museum, or the Cartoon Art Museum. 3) Around lunchtime, make your way to…
