Post-Debate Analysis, Round 2
Kerry: 8.5 Bush: 6.75 Bush gets a slight increase for not being *as* jumpy as he was before — oh and for this line in regard to the question about the draft: “I hear there’s rumors on the, uh, Internets.” Kerry was strong, clear, decisive, made his policies understandable. I’m glad he was straight on his taxes. And plus, it was really good that he went back over the question about why people don’t like us abroad. You can’t just…

2 + 2 = 5
MIAMI (AP) — Vice President Dick Cheney asserted on Thursday that a report by the chief U.S. weapons inspector in Iraq, who found no evidence that Iraq produced weapons of mass destruction after 1991, justifies rather than undermines President Bush’s decision to go to war. The report shows that “delay, defer, wasn’t an option,” Cheney told a town-hall style meeting. While Democrats seized on the new report by Charles Duelfer to bolster their case that invading Iraq was a mistake,…

Post-Debate Thoughts
Cheney: 7 Edwards: 7 So contrary to what I had expected, Edwards didn’t totally mop the floor with Cheney, and he gave a great effort. There wasn’t a lot to cut in on or really take him down with. Edwards gave a better closing statement than Cheney did. Cheney didn’t really respond to the accusations that he said that electing Kerry would be more dangerous and seemed to deny that he had said there was a link between Al Qaeda…

A Telling Statistic
ÒVoters with active passports prefer Kerry 58% to 35%, while those without a passport are for Bush 48% to 39%.” – John Zogby, Zogby International

Thoughts on the Debate
I think that Kerry had a very forceful showing in tonight’s debate (I was watching on PBS at the j-school). – He was articulate, clear, and didn’t get into long-winded answers. – He was polite, and listened attentively to Bush. – Bush committed the same error that Gore did in the 2000 debates, he jumped in right after Kerry spoke. Of course, Gore actually interrupted, and Bush didn’t, but Bush seemed ready to pounce on whatever Kerry said. – Bush…

First W and now P?
George P. Bush, son of Gov. Jeb Bush (R-FL) and his Mexican-born wife Columba Bush and nephew of Pres. George W. Bush, and grandson of former Pres. George H. W. Bush addressed the RNC tonight in NYC. A search of “George P. Bush” on Google reveals this gem from the annals of Bush history: CNN, August 4, 2000 Thursday’s appearance is not George P. Bush’s first time in the convention limelight. “P” stepped onto the national scene at the 1988…

Kerry: Preach this from the mountaintops!
This proves what Kerry, Edwards, Clinton and even Al Gore in the last campaign have been saying for years: Fully one-third of President Bush’s tax cuts in the last three years have gone to people with the top 1 percent of income, who have earned an average of $1.2 million annually, according to a report by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office to be published Friday. The report calculated that households with incomes in that top 1 percent were receiving an…

Live from Santa Monica Airport!
Why can’t our public officials be funny all the time? On Thursday evening, the Bushes were joined by Schwarzenegger inside a hangar decorated with large U.S. and California flags. “It’s fantastic to be with all of you here tonight to salute our great president, George W. Bush,” Schwarzenegger said in his brief introductory remarks. “I just want you to know, President Bush, how hard I’ve been working for you here in California. “I’ve been organizing Republicans for Bush-Cheney. I’ve been…

Maybe Howard Dean was right?
Most of the al Qaeda surveillance of five financial institutions that led to a new terrorism alert Sunday was conducted before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and authorities are not sure whether the casing of the buildings has continued since then, numerous intelligence and law enforcement officials said yesterday. More than half a dozen government officials interviewed yesterday, who declined to be identified because classified information is involved, said that most, if not all, of the information about the buildings…
