Fowler<\/a>, has just published a bona fide <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apsanet.org\/imgtest\/PSJuly08Fowler.pdf\">research paper<\/a> on the effects of the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wikiality.com\/The_Colbert_Bump\">Colbert Bump<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>From the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eurekalert.org\/pub_releases\/2008-08\/apsa-mt081308.php\">press release<\/a>:<i><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>His analysis finds that Democrats who appear on The Colbert Report enjoy a significant increase in the number and total amount of donations they receive over the next 30?? days when compared to similar candidates who do not appear on the show. Specifically, Democrats who come on the program raise $8,247 more than colleagues who don&#8217;t do so on the 32nd day following their appearance\u2014&#8221;a bump of roughly two-fifths over the normal rate of receipts.&#8221; Republicans do not appear to benefit at all from appearing on the program; notably, they raise more funds in the month before coming on the program while actually raising less money in the month following their appearance\u2014hinting at a possible &#8220;Colbert bust&#8221; for the GOP instead. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/i><\/p>\n<p>Update: Apparently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/templates\/story\/story.php?storyId=89558922\">NPR&#8217;s Day to Day<\/a> interviewed this guy back in April.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wow, apparently a UCSD political science professor, James H.
