{"id":1768,"date":"2008-10-26T14:38:56","date_gmt":"2008-10-26T21:38:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cyrusfarivar.com\/blog\/?p=1768"},"modified":"2008-10-26T14:38:56","modified_gmt":"2008-10-26T21:38:56","slug":"greetings-from-corsica","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cyrusfarivar.com\/blog\/2008\/10\/26\/greetings-from-corsica\/","title":{"rendered":"Greetings from Corsica"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Maure&#038;printable=yes\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/7\/7c\/Flag_of_Corsica.svg\/180px-Flag_of_Corsica.svg.png\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"20\" hspace=\"20\"\/><\/a>It&#8217;s the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/All_Saints_Day\">All Saint&#8217;s Day<\/a> holiday week this week in French public schools &#8212; we get a week and a half off from teaching &#8212; and so Becky and I are on a working vacation in Corsica working on this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wwoof.fr\/Preview\/wregion.php?w_region=2b\">pig and chestnut farm<\/a> (last post on that page) in Lustina, Corsica (about one hour&#8217;s drive south of <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?f=q&#038;hl=en&#038;geocode=&#038;q=bastia,+corsica&#038;ie=UTF8&#038;ll=42.720786,9.450645&#038;spn=0.105683,0.296288&#038;z=12&#038;g=bastia,+corsica&#038;iwloc=addr\">Bastia<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>So far we&#8217;ve met Jean-Mathieu, the 3rd generation Corsican <i>charcutier<\/i> (he speaks the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Corsican_language\">language<\/a>, too), his friendly Colombian buddy Felipe (who&#8217;s lived here for seven years), and the four other <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wwoof.fr\">WWOOFers<\/a> that are here with us in this tiny 10-person village. <\/p>\n<p>JP: A nurse from Brisbane, Australia who is effectively taking some time off from his work at home and is bouncing around France and then is headed on to Senegal for a couple of months to learn French and to volunteer at a clinic in my old stomping grounds of Saint-Louis.<\/p>\n<p>Zach: He&#8217;s been here a month and sadly is leaving tomorrow to head back to meet up with his girlfriend in Bordeaux before flying back to the US on Friday. He&#8217;s from Columbus, Ohio, and is currently applying to med school.
