I woke up around noon and eventually Rachel and I headed out for The Apple Pan for lunch which is always a local favorite. I decided that one thing that would improve their burgers is better buns &#8212; like a sesame bun or a whole wheat bun &#8212; their buns have about all the flavor of my elementary school cafeteria.<\/p>\n<p>Following that we decided to head out to Silver Lake, which I only recently discovered is the cool, hipster neighborhood of LA. I decided to take surface streets the whole way, thinking that it would be a relaxing and easy way to see some of LA &#8212; it took us nearly an hour to get there, thus reminding me why I don&#8217;t want to live in LA if I don&#8217;t have to, it just takes too damn long to get anywhere, and traffic sucks, particularly when you&#8217;re driving a ridiculously huge car like my Dad&#8217;s Expedition. We eventually got to N. Vermont Ave. and found some nifty shops and caf\u017ds to poke around in, before heading back westward. <\/p>\n<p>We started watching the rest of <i><a href=\"http:\/\/imdb.com\/title\/tt0086006\/\">Never Say Never Again<\/a><\/i>, but Rachel fell asleep again as part of her slow descent into light sickness, which isn&#8217;t good. So perhaps we won&#8217;t get to our restaurant in Eagle Rock after all for a V-Day dinner. If we don&#8217;t then perhaps we&#8217;ll just settle in with something from TJs and watch the Cal b-ball game tonight, which should prove to be interesting, I think.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This weekend as a whole has been somewhat quiet and subdued.
