I’ve been listening to Mozart’s 9th Piano Concerto, and I skipped over the second movement (Andante) because I think that it’s boring, so I have a question to pose to all you music-fans of all stripes:<\/p>\n
Why is it so difficult to write slow music that is powerful and good without being cheezy and\/or boring?<\/p>\n
The main classical pieces that I can think of that are slow and also good are:<\/p>\n
“Colonial Song” – Percy Grainger
\n“Amazing Grace” – Traditional
\n“Shenandoah” – Traditional
\n“Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral” (from “Lohengrin”) – Richard Wagner<\/p>\n
Anyone else want to recommend slow music that is good?<\/p>\n
Thesis progress is moving along — I’m ahead of schedule as it seems so far. Pretty much done with the second chapter, and am moving along to the lit review\/intro chapter. Jeez, this thing will be long. I’ll be impressed if anyone other than the people who actually have to read it (Profs. LaPorte and Lin) will read it. <\/p>\n
