There was a wedding celebration of dancing women going on downstairs, and I thought I would capture the moment. We are all dressed in “boubous”, the traditional Senegalese garb, in a village near the south central city (and Bashir’s hometown) of Medina Gounaas.

Category: “Lost in Translation”
“Bashir on the Roof”
http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~cfarivar/photos/senegal/bashir_roof.jpg

This, also taken in the same village, was when Bashir, as a gesture of hospitality, wento to grab peanuts that were drying on the roof — but of course, this wasn’t obvious to us at the time. From our perspective, it seemed as if he was just taking parts of the roof and offering it to us to eat.

Category: People and Culture
“Man in Bus”
http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~cfarivar/photos/senegal/man_in_diaobe.jpg

This is a man that I met on public transportation in the village of DiaobŽ. I think that it captures candidly this man’s forward looking sagicity.
