You know you’re in the Midwest when:

You’re watching the Lakers fall pretty flat against the Pistons in Game 3 and they interrupt the broadcast for a tornado warning.

Well, I’m in Chicago until Sunday with my Iranian grandmother, brother and parents for the AIA 2004 National Conference where my Dad is getting a fellowship tomorrow night. And then there’s a black tie dinner on Saturday (Alex, my bro, says it’s $180 a plate?!?!?)

Taking the El in from Southside, we headed up the Sears Tower (I’ve been before) and then walked around the shopping district on State St., having lunch at Marshall Field’s. Nothing incredibly exciting. We met up with my Dad at the conference, and had a really boring dinner (with an amazing lack of service) at the unadventurous Hyatt Hotel next door to where the conference is. Unfortunately getting my family to agree on food is not an easy task (they’re not nearly as adventerous as I and have varying taste) so I tend to keep my mouth shut in these matter.

We’re going to try to go to the White Sox game tomorrow night if it doesn’t get rained out.
