Using IPod Savvy to Mine a Niche
Ed: Thanks again to Simon (via Denise) for the story tip! December 2, 2004 Using IPod Savvy to Mine a Niche By CYRUS FARIVAR THE signature white earbuds of the iPod seem to be sprouting everywhere. So inevitably, perhaps, a service industry is close behind. For those who lack the time or the know-how to transfer their record collections to their iPods, an entrepreneur has created a service that will do the trick. The service, HungryPod (hungrypod.com), converts CD’s to…

Bush to Canada: I won’t play your game.
In his first state visit to Canada since his presidency, George W. Bush is refusing to speak to the House of Commons. Reportedly worried about being heckled by backbenchers in the House of Commons, Mr. Bush decided not to address Parliament. He will instead make the main speech of his visit in Halifax, a side trip intended to thank the city for taking in stranded passengers on Sept. 11, 2001. White House press secretary Scott McClellan shrugged off suggestions that…

Thanksgiving is the biggest teaser holiday
Don’t you think? You get four days — and then a few weeks later you get a much bigger holiday (particularly if you are a college student). We had a full house, with my nuclear (nuke-lee-er) family, my two cousins and my aunt, my Iraqi friend/classmate Sarmad, and two of my aunts friends from California and Massachusetts. Our dinner ended up being a slight deviation from a traditional dinner (we had originally planned to do a turducken, but that was…

I get six days off for Thanksgiving
I didn’t have class Tuesday or Wednesday, and we get Thursday – Sunday off, so it works out well. My parents came back down to NYC on Monday night, and stayed overnight at some hotel in the Village. We met up on Tuesday morning, and while my Dad had a meeting, Mom and I walked from the Village down to Ground Zero. Then we all met up at Penn Station and got on the 2 pm train to Hartford, which…

Public Service Announcement: A Longtime Cal Fan Wants Rose Bowl Tix
Please pass this along to any current UC Berkeley student who has current football season tickets that you know. So I just got off the phone with a longtime family friend, Robert Breuer, who lives on the side of Stawberry Canyon, overlooking Memorial Stadium. He has been a lifelong Bear fan and has been waiting for years to take his son Noah, to the Rose Bowl. He is willing to pay triple (triple!!!) the face value of student tickets to…

Hopeful . . .
Cyrus– I don’t have a slot for you for credit, but I’ll put you first on the waiting list, and my experience in the past is that very often a seat does open up before the second semester begins. Sam Freedman

“At Holocaust Museum, Turning a Number Into a Name”
So after I saw this Times article, I immediately went and had a look at The Central Database of Shoah Victims’ Names. I don’t know anyone personally who was killed in the Holocaust, but I remember my good friend Rachel Rosmarin mentioning that she had some relatives, so I tried her family name. There were 488 results. I clicked the first one, Rivka Rozmarin from Odessa (based on this record): Riva Rozmarin was born in Odessa, Ukraine in 1932 to…
