You know that political correctness has gone too far when:
You read on an online traffic school quiz that: For your first California license you must provide your social security number and proof that you are in the United States legally. Your thumbprint or fingerprint, if you have no thumbs, will be taken.

Busy little Monday
Well I hope everyone had a good Passover week / Easter holiday / whatever else you did recently. For some reason yesterday I had a cleaning bug and in one afternoon, managed to clean my bathroom, my bedroom, and the windows of my car (which desperately needed a shot or two of Windex) — for the first time in many many months. I don’t know what overcame me, but I did it. I also tried to do laundry, and managed…

We’re really in trouble now.
For those of you who hadn’t noticed, Iraq is in rebellion (surprise!) but to me, the more interesting thing is that a lot of big-name Republicans are backing off of this whole ordeal, as the NYT points out in the middle of this story: But in an unwelcome development for the White House, even some right-leaning commentators and political leaders appeared uncomfortable with Mr. Bush’s Iraq policy. Bill O’Reilly, the Fox News commentator who had been one of the most…

Don’t be surprised if your government thinks you’re a terrorist
Dan Gillmor points to the latest addition from the WTF Dept.: ACLU: WASHINGTON Ð A member of the military, a retired Presbyterian minister and a college student are among seven U.S. citizens who have joined the first nationwide, class-action challenge to the government’s ÒNo-FlyÓ list filed today by the American Civil Liberties Union.

So the Prime Minister of Malaysia, the President of the Phillipines, and Yasser Arafat walk into a chatroomÉ
So I’m working on my thesis, and I come across this History of the Internet and this entry, under 1996: Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, PLO Leader Yasser Arafat, and Phillipine President Fidel Ramos meet for ten minutes in an online interactive chat session on 17 January. I can just imagine how this one turns out: You are now talking on #worldleaders a/s/l? what? Let’s place outcast — you don’t live on an island! Loser! But the Occupied Territories are…

I owe Uncle Sam $67, and Gov. Arnold owes me $23.
Following last night’s marathon party (6.5 hrs at least!), today I was mildly productive. Rachel and I checked out Meal Ticket, up on San Pablo and Gilman, and it was good, but the wait staff was sorta weird, and I forgot to leave a tip — so it ended up being a mixed bag. I had an artichoke and melted bleu cheese omelette, the first time I’ve had melted bleu cheese before — quite tasty but an overwhelming flavor. We…

It’s Friday at Noon
Well, I’ve got my print debut in Macworld in the May 2004 issue. Page 85, in Geek Factor, to be exact. It’s a story on the Tatra Mac G4 — just a small three graf thing, but still, I’m pretty proud of it. 🙂 I’ll have a couple more things in the June and July issues. In other news, I got the B2 internship, and Time Inc. is footing the bill. Good stuff. So Rachel R. and I will overlap…

“Go to Canada.”
You know you’re living with David Boyk when: he wakes up in the morning and pronounces that he’s going to make chow mein for breakfast, just because. And then he does. And it’s great. [This happened about two days ago.] Happy birthday, dude. In other news, I’ve sent out 13 rŽsumŽs and a few more electronic versions. If nothing happens, NYC will be in my future, I think. Yet another reason why I love Canada: A Canadian federal judge essentially…

Columbia Ramblings
Well, I don’t know what to say anymore. First I wasn’t going to apply to grad school, then I did, then I didn’t want to go, then I did again, then I didn’t want to go again, then I got into Columbia, and yesterday I was ready to commit to going, and now, I’m not so sure anymore. I hate this. Columbia is great, but the truth is, I do want a job. And I know I’ve been annoying some…
