The Velocity of the Electrical Impulse
My new favorite quote of some indeterminate time period is: “The fastest mail express, or the swiftest ocean ship, are as naught compared with the velocity of the electrical impulse which annihilates any terrestrial dimension.” – Capt. George Squier, U.S. Army Signal Corps, 1901 Quoted in: Allison, Juliann Emmons. “Information and International Politics” in Technology, Development, and Democracy. Edited by Juliann Emmons Allison. © 2002 State University of New York Press, Albany. p. 29-30. It’s a nifty quote that I’ve…

Iranians Don’t Want To Go Nuclear
This is a great op-ed in today’s Washington Post about how ordinary Iranians don’t want nuclear stuff in their country. (Suprise!) Oh, and this was written by my cousin, Karim Sadjadpour, who is an analyst with the International Crisis Group, and is a visiting fellow at the American University of Beirut.

Don’t assume — it just makes an ass out of u and me.
So today I’m in Econ section and the GSI was explaining “utility” and said something that always makes me cringe and reinforces my hatred of economics as an academic discipline — it makes non-sensical statements like: “We assume that your happiness can be measured by some equations.” ARGH! I can’t even articulate how annoying this type of reasoning makes me. In other news, I ran into my brother at a talk today being given by Azar Nafisi, author of Reading…

John Kerry
With all the excitement surrounding John Kerry, I thought I’d link to my post right after Garett and I heard him at Stanfurd in December. Also check out Garett’s post. Now that we’re entering round three of primaries, who are you all going to vote for?

TURKEY EXPLODES IN MORGAN HILL
Pulitzer nomination for this one? 😉 A wild turkey was found exploded after running into a power line this morning in Morgan Hill, fire officials said. The power line could not withstand the impact of the turkey and was found snapped at the intersection of Sycamore Drive and Oakland Avenue. The line has since been repaired. Other than the dead turkey, no injuries or damage were reported. CyrusFarivar1029a02/01/04 CONTACT: Morgan Hill FD (408)-7790-0930 Copyright © 2004 by Bay City News,…

Feng shui this!
First BART is on this whole feng shui kick — and now the California State Assembly too? Associated Press: Calif. lawmaker wants building officials to consider feng shui TAMI MIN, Associated Press Writer Saturday, January 31, 2004 (01-31) 00:16 PST SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — More hippy, dippy jokes about California might be on the way, thanks to a state lawmaker who wants building codes to consider feng shui. State Assemblyman Leland Yee, D-San Francisco, has introduced a resolution that urges…

Activity Heats Up as U.S. and Iran Flirt With Closer Ties
From today’s Washington Post — here’s to hoping for the best: The two U.S. interventions in countries that share long borders with Iran have galvanized a rethinking of policy in Washington and Tehran, officials and analysts say. Iran’s agreement in December to allow surprise inspections by U.N. arms experts to verify that Tehran is not producing nuclear weapons also changed the atmospherics. “Iran’s acceptance of the terms was important, because it indicated a willingness to engage with the international community…

Works now!
Ok, I got my Moveable Type to work on my OCF account. It was pretty easy to install. I’ll probably write instructions on how to do it soon. Check it, yo. Anyway, time to tackle the Econ homework.

Migration
So I’ve decided that I’m going to give Moveable Type a try, considering that it is the best of the blogging type softwares. I’ve used LiveJournal and enjoyed its ease-of-use, but now that they’ve moved to S2, I find that the configurations and flexibility are much more difficult — I’m comfortable in HTML. So for now, I’m going to try to play with Moveable Type. Of course, I probably should be working on my thesis and Econ homework, which is…
