Cyrus on: CBC’s Spark and TVO’s Search Engine
I’m a little behind on keeping up with my own work these days. I’ve been busy with getting ready for Germany, a book deadline and some personal issues lately. That said, I’m tearing things up north of the border. I was interviewed by the ever tenacious Jesse Brown on Search Engine to talk about my recent visit to Washington, D.C. to attend Secretary Clinton’s speech on Internet Freedom. You can check out that interview here. I’m also on CBC Spark…

Media Appearances: Radio Free Asia, CNN, Brian Lehrer show
In the last 24 hours, I’ve been quoted in three major news outlets. The first was Radio Free Asia: 伊朗的用户本身也对此行动表示振奋,在美国的伊朗问题专家和新闻人Cyrus Farivar 表示,“我在推特上搜索关于伊朗消息时,可以看到许许多多中国网民推出的贴上了#cn4iran 标签的话题。他说中国和伊朗的情况有很多相似之处,他认为,中国人也和伊朗人民一样,热烈地珍惜渴望一个自由表达的环境。但他认为官方对互联网的控制要比伊朗严格许多,这也是中国网民的不幸之处 I can’t read this, but here’s what Google makes of it: Iran’s actions by the users themselves have also inspired, in the United States, Iran experts and journalists Cyrus Farivar said, “I was pushing special news search on Iran, you can see many Chinese netizens launched labeled # cn4iran label topic. He said China and Iran, there are many similarities…

PBS 5Across: The Importance of Free Speech Online in Iran, China, Kenya
I had the honor of speaking on PBS’ new online program, called 5Across. It’s a program hosted and produced by PBS MediaShift’s Mark Glaser. This conversation was taped in San Francisco on July 6, 2009. In a crisis, governments will often curtail freedom of the press, censoring or shutting broadcasts and newspapers. But blocking websites, slowing the Internet or cutting off SMS messaging can be harder to do. Stopping the flow of information online can be a difficult task, as…

Cyrus on CBC’s Search Engine
I had the honor of being interviewed by Jesse Brown on his CBC show, Search Engine (now sadly relegated to just podcast status), to talk about the whole Hossein Derakhshan situation. You can download the 15 minute podcast here. As of Thursday, I got a call from Ottawa, saying that the Canadian government had put in a request to their embassy in Tehran to find out if in fact, Derakhshan was arrested. I will check back in with them today.
