I’m back
I’m back from the East Coast. Philadelphia airport is surprisingly easy to get to. Also, I had a cheesesteak sandwich before leaving the confines of the City of Brotherly Love. Looking forward to chillaxing at home this week until CES begins and I head out for Africa.

Merry Christmas to all!
It’s been a long-standing tradition in our family to have my grandfather read “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” on Christmas Eve. This year, I’ve recorded it for posterity and will release it as my Christmas present to everyone! “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” by Dylan Thomas, as read by John Hadsell [MP3 – 20:31 – 9.6MB]

Five bloggy facts
I’ve been tagged by Glenn Fleishman for the latest blogger meme du jour. I’m supposed to list five things that most people don’t know about me. 1. My only run-in with school authorities came when I was in kindergarten. I was suspended for one day for biting Lee Kramer, a friend of mine (yes, we’re still friends) on the hand. Basically, at recess there was a shopping cart full of balls (for four-square, handball, etc.) and it was always a…

It’s officially autumn now
I just made my first fire in my fireplace of late 2006. I’ve been wearing more and more long sleeve t-shirts as of late (still with the sandals, though), have been throwing more blankets on my bed at night, have worn my beanie a few times during the day. It’s down to the 50s in Oakland these days — although my weather forecast predicts a mid-70s day later this week. Still, it’s that time of year when life just feels…

Playoffs Update
The A’s won their first game today against the Twins, and lead the Division Series 1-0. With any luck, they’ll win Game 2 and will have a solid shot of defeating the Twins when my brother and I go to Game 3 on Friday, thus advancing to the ALCS. Oh, and I also bought a pair of tickets to the ALCS too. I’m still gunning for an A’s vs. Dodgers series.

Public Announcement
My old ocf.berkeley.edu email account has gotten spammed to high heaven, so I’ve decided to no longer check it. So if for some reason you’re still emailing me there, I will no longer respond. My current email continues to be cfarivar [at] cfarivar {d0t} org.

Let’s Go, Oakland!
I’m going to the playoffs! The last (and only time) I went to a playoff game was in fall 2003 with my buddy Garett Ng. Today, the 2006 American League Division Series tickets just went on sale, and I snagged a pair of bleachers tickets for Game 1 or 3, and Game 5. Huzzah!

Google Maps Updates
Paul Boutin just pointed me to the fact that Google Maps has updated its imaging. It’s so good now that I can pick out the building that I used to live in in Senegal (click on the image to make it bigger). The red arrow marks my home from November 2002 – May 2003. The Université Gaston Berger is about 12 km east of the city of Saint-Louis, Senegal.

Greetings from Santa Monica
I’ve been in LA since Thursday evening, visiting my parents and friends down here. On Friday, I lunched with Jason Calacanis (my new boss‘ boss‘ boss) at the Daily Grill, where we ran into Danah Boyd as we were leaving. Later that night, after dinner with my family at Javan Restaurant, I re-met a very old childhood friend, whom I haven’t seen in over 20 years, Arianna Haut. She recently moved back to LA — naturally we headed straight for…
