Public Service Announcement: A Longtime Cal Fan Wants Rose Bowl Tix
Please pass this along to any current UC Berkeley student who has current football season tickets that you know. So I just got off the phone with a longtime family friend, Robert Breuer, who lives on the side of Stawberry Canyon, overlooking Memorial Stadium. He has been a lifelong Bear fan and has been waiting for years to take his son Noah, to the Rose Bowl. He is willing to pay triple (triple!!!) the face value of student tickets to…

Hopeful . . .
Cyrus– I don’t have a slot for you for credit, but I’ll put you first on the waiting list, and my experience in the past is that very often a seat does open up before the second semester begins. Sam Freedman

“At Holocaust Museum, Turning a Number Into a Name”
So after I saw this Times article, I immediately went and had a look at The Central Database of Shoah Victims’ Names. I don’t know anyone personally who was killed in the Holocaust, but I remember my good friend Rachel Rosmarin mentioning that she had some relatives, so I tried her family name. There were 488 results. I clicked the first one, Rivka Rozmarin from Odessa (based on this record): Riva Rozmarin was born in Odessa, Ukraine in 1932 to…

Happy Gettysburg Day!
Today is the 141st anniversary of the Gettysburg Address. So to celebrate, I’m putting up a bootleg recording that I made of an 11’30” reading by Sarah Vowell of her experience at Gettysburg. Please forgive the loud laughter by myself and my friends. And on a totally unrelated note, (courtesy Rachel Balsham), is this Bush in drag? (from this article.) You be the judge.

News from this side of the Hudson
Acquired an official UN shot glass last weekend. Acquired three new Eddie Izzard DVDs at the signing. MOMA is re-opening this Saturday. Free admission, 10 am – 9 pm. I might go. Also want to check out the Timothy Greenfield-Sanders [NSFW] exhibit and the Alexander Hamilton exhibit. Had coffee/lunch this week with Scott Rafer of Feedster fame and Dave Feldman of Imponderables fame. Might be going to visit Dallas in Cincy for a few days in mid-Dec. Working on two…

Them be fightin’ words
For that to happen, however, Mr. Jobs must do what he failed to do last time: prevail over his old nemesis, Bill Gates, who sees entertainment as Microsoft’s next great frontier. Microsoft is working hard to make sure that the iPod is less like the Walkman and more like the Betamax, Sony’s videocassette format that was defeated in the marketplace by VHS. A few days after Apple’s U2 extravaganza, Mr. Gates, Microsoft’s chairman, paced around his office overlooking the rolling…

So it’s official
I’ll be in California from Dec. 20 to Jan. 9 — probably most of that time in Berkeley. Hope some of you folks will still be around then. Returning to OAK on May 20, two days after I graduate.
