I’ve been listening to Mozart’s 9th Piano Concerto, and I skipped over the second movement (Andante) because I think that it’s boring, so I have a question to pose to all you music-fans of all stripes:
Why is it so difficult to write slow music that is powerful and good without being cheezy and/or boring?
The main classical pieces that I can think of that are slow and also good are:
“Colonial Song” – Percy Grainger
“Amazing Grace” – Traditional
“Shenandoah” – Traditional
“Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral” (from “Lohengrin”) – Richard Wagner
Anyone else want to recommend slow music that is good?
Thesis progress is moving along — I’m ahead of schedule as it seems so far. Pretty much done with the second chapter, and am moving along to the lit review/intro chapter. Jeez, this thing will be long. I’ll be impressed if anyone other than the people who actually have to read it (Profs. LaPorte and Lin) will read it.
Hmmm, tomorrow I have to do my Econ homework and my MacWorld story, both due on Wednesday.
