Sorry I haven’t blogged much lately
But I’ve been really busy with working on a piece for The New York Times (!!!) that I just finished tonight. Should be appearing next Thursday. Keep an eye out. Just got to finish up some minor things and head to bed. But first, a couple of really tragic and really cool stories (courtesy Aaron): A 21-year-old college student died Thursday of a head injury after a clash between police and a crowd of Red Sox fans who poured into…

49-7, 7-3 and TMBG?
Wow! Cal beats Oregon St. 49-7, the Dodgers come from a 3-0 deficit in the bottom of the ninth to snag their first division title in years by beating the Giants 7-3 — and I just got back from a concert of They Might Be Giants in New York City! What a day!

Fun with Skype, Not so fun with United
Last night I had a great dinner at the Breuer residence, where I wished Noah a great time in his upcoming year in Kyoto Seika University to study Japanese printmaking. Good luck! While I was there, serving as the Mac-fix-it-guy-in-residence pretty much wherever I go, I was able to resolve two problems Noah and his Dad were wondering about. Thursday news
Bad news: California Supreme Court Voids Gay Marriages in San Francisco (NYT, August 12 2004) Optimistic caveat: Mr. Newsom had argued that he could order the licenses issued because he believed the state ban on same-sex marriage to be unconstitutional. The justices today did not address the constitutional question, which is the subject of a separate lawsuit in San Francisco Superior Court. But they did say that should the existing marriage law ultimately be found unconstitutional, “same-sex couples then would…

“Cause everyone’s your friend, in New York City . . .”
I’ll be back from LA this evening. If people want to hit up the Albatross, I’ve got two drink tokens that Rachel and I want to use up. I leave for NYC in two days. In other news: if you want to have a baby, go to Australia.
